Wedding Photographer Kensington / Chelsea

What to look for in London and Kensington / Chelsea Wedding Photographers
by Paul Turner

Your wedding day is probably the most important day of your life, and choosing a wedding photographer in London or Kensington / Chelsea is not easy as there are so many of them. When you consider that your wedding photos are the most important photos you will ever have taken for you then you may want to get some tips on choosing the right wedding photographer.

So how do you choose the right London / Kensington / Chelsea wedding photographer for your big day? We spoke to Jay Rowden who is an experienced photographer with a keen eye for a good photograph and has a full membership with The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. He is also affiliated with The Royal Photographic society making him a good choice for your wedding photographer if his order book isn't already full on your wedding day.

A good wedding photographer should be more than competent with a camera and the equipment, and should have made a healthy investment in this to give you the best possible pictures. This should really go without saying, but it's worth asking what they have - the answers may mean nothing to you unless you are a camera buff but you'll see if they know what they are talking about.

What is harder to get a feel for is the photographers eye for taking a picture - what do I mean by that? Well, you need someone who can skilfully master light and composition in your wedding photos. They need an eye for detail and need to be able to break down a visual scene into the right photographic elements. Someone with a bit of flair, panache and creativity rather than just pointing and clicking the camera to make sure they get all of the guests in.

I think this is important and some good wedding photographers do get this for their clients but in a way that intrudes on the atmosphere. A good wedding photographer should blend in to the crowd, almost as if he were one of the guests at the Church along with everyone else. I try very hard for the bride and groom to offer them a service that truly delivers. I speak to all of them to find out what style they would like and manage their expectations around any issues I can see. I also go over the finer details and timings of the wedding day to ensure I can take the pictures they would like whatever the weather conditions. I would recommend you choose a wedding photographer with a good portfolio of work they can show you so you know what you can expect. I also have extensive wedding pictures in albums I can show to prospective clients.

You should also look at the quality of the wedding album itself and ask when you can expect the pictures. Too quickly is a sign of poorer quality. About 6 weeks is normal if they are actually putting a lot of work into putting a great album together. Hopefully you will have some idea of what to look for when choosing wedding photographer in Kensington / Chelsea after reading this interview with Jay.
